My 78 express again, but now with a modified stock muffler. Intake bored out as well as exhaust port enlarged. Running a stock carb from an 81 express, Did a plug chop and it’s looking good so far but might up jet and see if that improves it a bit more. I know it’s hard to see, but not easy to ride one handed at that speed on an express. The road is pretty flat but had a tail wind. Going down a different road with a downhill slope I hit somewhere around 38 to 40. Difficult to tell as the speedo stops at 35mph.
ok thats what i heard. i was thinking about doing some of that stuff. and i ganed 5 mph just by inflating my tires all the way. thanks!
Express are not governed. Some are just a little faster than others. There are things you can do to help. Check the tires to be sure they are inflated, make sure the brakes are not dragging. have a clean air filter. clean the exhaust and make sure it’s not blocked. also a good carb clean is essential.
Hey, my stock Honda express nc 50 seems like it is gorverning out at aroung 25mph. it starts cutting out just as if it were governed at 25 mph. do you know if they have a governor and if so, where. or what would be the reason my moped is doing this. Thanks!
Well, this one was modified a little bit, but they are fun to ride and great on gas. Check your local craigslist or just keep an eye open, they will pop up every once in a while.

Cut it apart and gutted it. Took everything out of it. Then welded it back together.

Well it did work just fine, but I’m going more for performance and when I got it all together it just seemed to weigh things down. meaning I thought the take off would have been better, it really wasnt. and the top end suffered just a tiny bit. now for someone looking at a stock express, should work no problem.
hey! ive thought about doing the same as well! what exactly didnt work about it? ive heard rumors that its not as simple as bolting the 2 speed lower end onto earlier models’ top end. is that true?if you could make a video explaining that too, that would be a rich source of knowledge for the online express world.
I will do that, I have to tear it apart again as I tried a two speed transmission and it didn’t do quite what I hoped it would.
it would be great if you did a video detailing what exactly you did to it. how much you bored out the exhaust port, how many/how big are the holes you drilled in the muffler, etc.

Really? I could do 35-40 all day on mine, but then again I was like 120lbs and 13 or 14 at the time.
